Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026
TapTest is a keyboard and game-controller tester that runs entirely in your web browser. This policy explains, in plain terms, what does and doesn't happen with your information.
What we don't collect
- We do not record, store, or transmit the keys you press or the controller buttons you use. All detection happens locally on your device and never leaves your browser.
- We don't ask for your name, email, or any account. There is no login.
- We don't use analytics or tracking scripts of our own.
What stays on your device
To remember your preferences between visits, TapTest saves a few small settings in your browser's local storage: whether key sound is on, whether the key-history panel is shown, which keyboard layout you selected, and your best typing-test scores. This information never leaves your device and you can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Advertising
TapTest uses Google AdSense to display ads, which keeps the tool free to use. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. How Google uses this data is described in Google’s privacy & terms, and you can manage personalised advertising in your Google account’s ad settings.
Cookies and consent
If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will see a consent banner before any advertising cookies are set, asking whether you agree. You can accept, decline, or manage your choices, and you can change your decision later by clearing this site’s data in your browser. The preference settings described above (sound, layout and key-history) are stored on your device only and are never used for advertising.
Your controls
You can clear the stored preferences described above through your browser settings at any time. Where required by law, you can also use your browser or ad-provider controls to manage advertising cookies.
